Tour Tech Roundup

Prior to this year, time trial helmets were nothing more than an aerodynamic shell. They offered no protection at all. A rule change for this year requires them to be as safe as normal helmets. So, now they are safe and aerodynamic (though probably not quite as aero as last year, though some manufacturers claim otherwise).

So what's the difference between a time trial helmet and a regular (competition) cycling helmet? Thinner, more aerodynamic? Jet thrusters?

More aerodynamic.

This month's Wired had an article on some of the goodies. The Nike clothing is seamless and has some weird water wicking capabilities for mountain versus flat usage.

In about ten years, you'll find this stuff in a Bike Nashbar catalog ;-)
